2010 Achiever of the Year

Achiever of the Year Christopher Carraher was referred to Goodwill in 1997 by the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, and came to us with the goal of employment.  Christopher presented multiple barriers in addition to his shyness and low self-esteem  Chris participated in prevocational programming to develop soft skills and general vocational awareness, as well as work adjustment to assist him in developing emotional tolerance, good work habits and behaviors, and to build skills.  Chris's hard work paid off when he was hired by Goodwill Industries as a shipper/packer and then as a store clerk.  Chris has come a long way from the shy, insecure young man he was in 1997.  He communicates openly with staff and customers, even initiating conversation despite his communication difficulties.  He does quality work, takes his job seriously, has excellent attendance and has developed self-confidence.  He has benefitted from Goodwill's acceptance and flourished to his potential.

2010 Employee of the Year

Ken Stevenson worked many years in the crash fire department of the United States Air Force before being promoted to First Sergeant.  After twenty-two years of service he was honorably discharged in 1990. He then drove truck for O&P Oil and Gas for approximately sixteen years before retiring in 2006.  During retirement Ken found himself bored as a result of his energetic nature.

He applied to Goodwill Industries of Ashtabula, Inc. for a truck driver position.  In May of 2008 Ken was officially hired as a truck driver.  Since his first day on the job, Ken has impressed his supervisors and co-workers with his excellent work ethic.  He strives for excellence and it shows in his work.  Ken works diligently and is always going above and beyond to help in any way he can.  He is reliable, dependable, has an excellent attendance history and is very flexible.  Today you will find Ken not only driving truck for Goodwill but also taking care of maintenance issues. Ken is a living demonstration of the Air Forces  informal motto of “work hard, play hard”.
